What do you do at ANC?
I lead a small but very effective team of safety professionals with my key focus to keep our people safe and our business compliant to various laws and standards.
It’s well known within the transport industry that things change really quickly. This means that my approach to safety management needs to adapt. Often there is a balancing act between “doing the job safely” and providing an operationally and financially viable process or service to our clients.
Safety always comes first as we know.
I also provide WHS, CoR and Contractor Compliance updates and recommendations to ANC’s Managers, Executive Team, Shareholders and our Clients. I started
Transport career experience?
I started driving heavy vehicles in 1993. In 1996 I began operating road trains and other specialist plant and equipment. In 2001 started a career in the oil industry working for both Shell and BP over serveral years as a tanker driver, I eventually transitioned into a formal training role which is where I was introduced to the world of workplace safety. In 2010 I took up my first formal safety role with Linfox, this is where I really learnt the ropes. Since then I have held many national and regional Safety and Compliance roles across the transport, logistics and manufacturing space.
Favourite part of your job?
Engaging with people and problem solving, working closely with people teaches me a lot every day.
How would you describe ANC if it was a person?
Sylvester Stallone (Rambo/Rocky) focussed, determined, always coming out on top and always finding a way to succeed. (please disregard the bloodshed, explosions and violence)
What do you like to do when you are not working?
I’m a handyman so I love doing my own mechanical repairs and building at home (I hate paying for something I can do myself). I also love my fishing, 4wding and camping.
How do you help ANC deliver extraordinary experiences?
Me and my team treat ANC as an internal customer, we work closely with every part of the business to ensure we have safe yet practical solutions that can be realistically applied in the field and boardroom.
Being realistic is my key to providing real extraordinary experiences.
